The other remaining commissioners – Paul Gregg, director of the centre for analysis of social policy at the University of Bath, and David Johnston, the chief executive of the Social Mobility Foundation – are also understood to be quitting. “We are extremely grateful to Alan Milburn for his work as chair of the Social Mobility Commission over the past five years,” the spokesman said. “We are making good progress with social mobility – we have increased the national living wage, cut income tax for the lowest paid and doubled free childcare.
