Hard-line anti-EU lawmakers in the ruling Conservative Party want to junk Mrs. May’s plan to keep close economic ties with the bloc after Brexit in March next year in favor of a more definitive break with the EU. They have gained in Mr. Johnson a powerful, if unpredictable, figurehead.
