That's what happened today when Pokémon GO celebrates its one-year anniversary, something that Niantic has been talking about since the Solstice Event. Pokémon GO quickly followed its odd little Christmas event with something more substantial, and followed its baby Pokémon announcement with the full release of Gen 2. My guess is that the real event will come in the days surrounding Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago, the major event meant to serve as a big party for the Pokéfaithful. Niantic has framed all the stuff we've been seeing recently as anniversary celebrations: the Solstice event, raids, the gym revamp and real-life events.
