Afghanistan crisis: US President Joe Biden on Monday defended his decision to withdraw his troops from Afghanistan amid criticism that America had turned its back to very people it promised to protect from Taliban. He blamed politicians and army for not taking on Taliban insurgents, which were less in numbers and not highly trained. Our only vital national interest in Afghanistan remains today what it has always been: preventing a terrorist attack on American homeland. If anything, the developments of the past week reinforced that ending U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan now was the right decision. - And here’s what I believe to my core: It is wrong to order American troops to step up when Afghanistan’s own armed forces would not.
