Overnight on the outskirts of the state, temperatures in the Bridgeport Valley plummeted to minus 27 degrees in the early hours. The region’s coldest recorded day, according to Fuentes, came on January 31, 1937, when the temperature dropped to minus 37 degrees. The state’s record was recently set on January 20, 1937, when Boca – north of Lake Tahoe – weathered minus 45 degrees. Over the weekend in downtown Los Angeles, lows fall in the 40’s and highs in the low to mid 60’s. The drier weather is a far cry from the intense rains that have inundated parts of Los Angeles County and devastated areas across the state in recent weeks.
