more-inDuring my childhood, my village Parakkai, in Kanniyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, was staunchly divided: you were a fan of either M.G. Temple festivals, Deepavali, and Pongal would not be complete without their films being screened on the streets. Fans would vie with one another to screen their favourite hero’s film first. The supporters of Sivaji would argue that a bad actor like MGR could not be a good politician. Fans would shower the screen with tickets, collected from those around them, when their heroes made appearances.
