Every time there’s palpable rage in Kenya, I remember James Baldwin being asked about being Black in America. This is why rage alone is not enough for change as it easily consumes, tires and eventually destroys. As much as there’s a rightful necessity for collective rage, there’s an equal need to realise that rage is most effective at the start of change and not in the process. This realisation helps us know when we’ve stayed too long in a state of rage to be able to swiftly transcend. Know when to take a break and exhale, especially when so much that’s happening is enraging.
