The report uncovered that 30 per cent of traditionally employed Canadians see themselves transitioning to self-employment in the next two years. It also represents an enormous labour force shift that heralds a new age of entrepreneurship and profound societal and economic changes. We need to acknowledge that a lack of a formal university degree is no longer always a hurdle on the path to success for potential small business owners. The typical 9-to-5 workday does not apply to small business owners, so having daycare availability outside the traditional business hours that many entrepreneurs work is critical. Policy-makers should encourage our financial institutions to lend more capital to more small business owners.
