With one exception: Last October, I helped President Obama honor the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins. Stanley Cup winners the Pittsburgh Penguins joined President Obama at the White House Oct. 6. The Penguins last clinched their first Stanley Cup since 2009, and were also honored by Obama then at the White House. President Obama ad-libbed an apology for the dad jokes we scattered through the speech. He served as a speechwriter to President Obama, Secretary of State John F. Kerry and U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid.
