Kobe Bryant died on Sunday in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif. along with eight others, three of them children. But Kobe wasn’t a myth; he was a man, flaws and all. The fallout propelled the breakup of Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe’s partnership with the three-time champion Los Angeles Lakers, breaking up Shaq’s marriage and rocking Kobe’s. Or was it his matchless competitive hunger, the way he attacked every day, every opponent, every aspect of the game? The way Kobe took control of his life, bent so much to his will and committed totally.
