The traits he exhibited – unfailing confidence, an incomprehensible drive for greatness, a work ethic that surpass almost all others – transcended basketball and, really, transcended all sports. There is no denying, I don’t think, that Bryant became something even greater once he left the game. Men, women, veterans, kids, good players and bad, they wanted Kobe to notice them and if he wanted to help, they were taking whatever assistance they could get from him. That neither Gigi or Kobe Bryant got to live out their lives and affect the world in whichever manner they ultimately would have is a true shame.
