Ontario minister details challenges, frustration early in pandemic as commission examines long-term care failures. A just-released transcript of the Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission's interview with long-term care minister Merrilee Fullerton and her deputy shows the pair advocated for stronger measures than what the government was willing to put in place, earlier than they were willing to act. Fullerton's notes from the time suggest she was concerned about asymptomatic spread of COVID-19 in long-term care homes as early as Feb. 5, 2020. The pandemic shut down the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind's normal eight-person, three-week residency training program where clients move in and learn how to live with their new guide dogs. Costs at both CGDB and for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind's Guide Dogs program have gone up.
