But for residents of Yellowknife and Iqaluit, where Northview controls roughly 80 per cent of the multi-unit private rental housing stock, the company is hard to avoid. In 2019, Northview controlled 26,723 rental units, including 2,654 in the North. But renters have few other options when it comes to rental housing in the North. Decades of policy-makers ignoring mergers and acquisitions that gave one company an ever-greater hold on the property market have left tenants increasingly dependent on Northview for market housing.
