Let’s say players agree to live in a COVID-19 free bubble for three or four months, until a Stanley Cup champion is decided. Let’s say frequent testing of players and everyone in that bubble is not controversial, that everyone can be tested. Let’s say issues like who gets paid how much and insurance all get sorted out with happy endings. If the NHL does come back to crown a champion, we may end up calling it them COVID Cup champions, rather than Stanley Cup champions.
