Before this, to me, a record cover meant a boyband on a sleeve, which made me want to puke, but here was something I could emotionally engage with. In the context of a record sleeve, he brings something unconventional, bold, playful, thought-provoking, raw and engaging while maintaining an unlaboured feel. I think subconsciously the starkness and simplicity of the cover image against a white background seeped into how I designed De La Soul Is Dead. The visual aspect of music, the album cover, is important, because it is a picture of the music, depicting the sound.
