The great Eid rush beginsThe great Eid rush has picked up in Dhaka’s Kamalapur Railway Station. Hundreds of homebound Eid passengers have been gathering at the central railway station with the hope to get a place in trains since early Thursday, the last working day before the six-day holidays.Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Muslims, will be observed on September 13 (Tuesday). The usual three-day official holidays has stretched to four days this year as the prime minister announced Sunday (Sept 11) as a holiday.Bangladesh, however, will enjoy a six-day vacation due to the weekend -- Friday and Saturday.Officials said the railway station has been crowded since wee hours of Thursday. Eighteen trains departed until 10am today, they added.Holidaymakers were seen waiting at the platforms, all smiling and cheering as they go home for Eid with friends and family. "The last time I went home was last year during the Eid-ul-Azha," said Rebeka Begum, waiting for her train to the northern district of Rangpur.Tickets for journeys ahead the Eid were sold in advance, according to bdnews24.com.
