Is this the year the Proteas break their streak of bad luck and bring home the world cup trophy that’s eluded them so far? They certainly weren’t the favourites when the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup began on 5 October in India, but after winning all their games so far and breaking the tournament’s run record, the Proteas are looking good. Since South Africa’s return to world cricket in 1991, we’ve never made it further than the semifinals of a world cup and at the start of this year’s tournament, the odds were not in our favour.
