Charles Peterson, a former deputy who went through the police academy with Calkins in 1987, was asked about the three-year gap in Calkins’ arrest history. Terrance Williams was 27 years old, and he had learned a few things as a Black man in America. A CNN search of court records showed that Calkins issued ticket number 9661-CNA five days before Williams disappeared, and he issued ticket number 9663-CNA the day after Williams disappeared. In interviews with sheriff’s investigators, Calkins said nice things about the men who disappeared.
