A rāhui has been placed on Taranaki Maunga after two climbers were found dead near the mountain's summit. A Taranaki man tramping on Taranaki Maunga at the same time two people died considered trying for the summit but turned back as conditions worsened. However, that often “hides” treacherous conditions near the summit, which climbers say often glistens with black ice. Later that night two people died near the hut.
