Elevator construction continues today because when construction of the mass-transit network began nearly 13 years ago, the rights of disabled people were ignored by both the body that granted the concession and the company that won it. Thankfully there were no injuries and nobody was roasted in the elevator that was intended for disabled commuters. Even today there are allegations of irregular procurement practices for mini fire engines by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. People can simply continue to circumvent the law to save a few baht but the consequences could be disastrous. Studies have shown that the country has as many as 14 groups of active fault lines spread over 22 provinces.
