(CNN) As the country tries to come to terms with the crash that claimed the life of basketball superstar Kobe Bryant, fans and cities across the country have begun paying tribute to the NBA legend. Bryant was one of nine people killed when their helicopter rammed into a Calabasas, California, hillside Sunday morning. He was traveling with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, whom he had previously said wanted to follow in his footsteps as a professional basketball player. Bryant, a five-time NBA champion and one of the league's top scorers of all time, entered the NBA straight out of high school at just 17 years old. He spent the next 20 years of his life making history with the Los Angeles Lakers before retiring in 2016.
