Ever since, I have been grappling with the impact of these videos. On the Memphis recordings, you can hear the police officers concocting a story to explain their use of force. There is a power, too, in forcing the public to bear witness. It concerns me that these videos may normalize police violence, and in the process, create a sense of helplessness. But the videos show that advice is useless when an officer of the law decides to act lawlessly.
