The city wants a six-storey height limit for Queen Street West. Does that help or hinder development there?

Longtime Parkdale resident Jack Gibney considers himself pro-development and someone who is “all for intensification” — but he doesn’t want to see huge condo or office towers on Queen Street West. The city also wants to turn this section of the street, which includes Parkdale and West Queen West, into heritage conservation districts where, for example, architectural features dating back to the 19th century would be protected. Gibney, 70, who has a background in developing and managing property, advised a city working group that has provided input for the new proposals for Queen West. Growth points also include avenues along the city’s main streets — 140 kilometres of avenues such as College Street, Dundas Street, Wilson Avenue Lake Shore Boulevard and Queen Street. The city came up with the recent proposals for Queen Street West after creating a working group years ago that included local business owners, people involved in the community and residents.
