Keeping your head up and your eyes on the path is the best way to avoid the many tripping hazards that lurk on city streets. But the city has to do its part by making sure things that are likely to snag a foot — such as the stump of a sawed-off sign post — are removed when the cutting is done and before someone can trip over it. Had that happened when a broken sign post on Yonge Street was first cut off, Kate Azure probably wouldn’t have stumbled on it and suffered injuries that she says will take months to heal. City staff work hard to ensure public road and sidewalk spaces are safe and passable, and staff are investigating the location today with an aim to replace the missing traffic sign and return the sidewalk to a safe and passable condition. Residents are encouraged to contact 311 and file a service request for staff to respond if they observe potential tripping hazards in the public right of way.”
