Some people would rather roll up their sleeves and get to work, instead of doing nothing while a tiny slice of paradise becomes infested with weeds. That sums up the efforts of Tracy Warne, his wife and a neighbour, to care for a small garden that the city built about four years ago at an entrance to Ramsden Park, on Roxborough Avenue, then forgot about. He insisted he knew nothing about gardening, that Barbara is the green thumb and their neighbour (and McDougall’s wife) Jan Dattels deserves credit. It’s not the first time I’ve heard about the city creating a garden or attractive green space, and then leaving it to fill with weeds. If anyone knows about other high-minded citizens who have taken custody of green space that the city created and then abandoned, please let me know about it.
