A new Bay of Plenty-based medical marijuana company, Medicann, was looking for a chief executive. The company aimed to take advantage of the forthcoming Medical Cannabis Bill to become “the market leader in medical cannabis in New Zealand”. He was better known in Australia after launching the country’s first medical cannabis company, PhytoTech, in 2015. Christel Yardley/Stuff Ross Smith launched Australia's first medical cannabis company. He has removed himself completely from the medical cannabis industry and now runs a classic motorcycle shop in Mount Maunganui.
