In his March 23 Washington Forum commentary, “A White House cry for help,” Michael Gerson listed a number of reasons that might motivate leaks from the White House. He said, rightfully, that many White House leaks have to be coming from relatively few people with the intimate knowledge necessary to make the leaks, making it easier to identify the leaker or leakers. He surmised that the recent leak that President Trump was advised not to congratulate Russian President Vladimir Putin on his recent election but did so anyway was very risky on the leaker’s part and must indicate a desperate cry for help. However, the president could have authorized the leak or be the leaker, a strategy Mr. Trump is known to have used as a private citizen. John Moteff, Rockville
