A sheriff's office in Indiana is honoring officers across the country who were killed in the line of duty with a special Christmas tree. The tree standing in the Boone County Sheriff’s Office features blue ornaments that represent each of the 137 officers who have fallen this year. The Indianapolis Star reported that Pickett, a sheriff's deputy, was fatally shot as he was helping fellow officers catch someone on the run. "The goal here is to make sure that we pay the ultimate tribute to these officers that have given their lives to hold that thin blue line," Nielsen said. He added that once the tree is taken down, his office will be sending the ornaments out to each of the officers' departments.
