Few foods can have such a diverse range of flavours and textures as the humble cookie, which is why it’s such a universally enjoyed treat: there’s something for everyone. For the last decade, the Toronto Star Cookie Calendar has baked up more than 200 types of cookies inspired by cherished family recipes, the GTA’s top bakeries, suggestions from longtime Star readers, favourite recipe books and websites and the trendy ingredients of that time. Since 2008, a cookie recipe a day, tested by the Star’s food writers, was released starting in December much like a delicious advent calendar. The first cookie calendar was published in 2008. Then Star reporter Sunny Freeman and former Star recipe columnist Eric Vellend tested the first 24 recipes collected from family members, magazines such as Bon Appetit and cookie cookbooks.
