The UK will sign a landmark defence deal with Germany this week that will help pave the way for closer military and security ties with the European Union, The Times newspaper reported, saying the deal would allow British and German forces to conduct joint military exercises on Nato's eastern border, most likely in Estonia and Lithuania. The agreement will also allow the two countries to jointly procure weapons and increase cooperation “in the development and production of the next generation of weapons”. The British Defence Minister, John Healey, he hoped the agreement would strengthen the UK and German military industries.
