David G. SavageWashington — Wednesday’s Supreme Court dismissed former President Donald Trump’s plea to protect the White House’s records from the House Commission investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol. Only Judge Clarence Thomas voted to grant Trump’s appeal. The document in question is held by the National Archives of Japan under the terms of the Presidential Records Act. They stated that the records were protected by presidential privileges and that Congress had no “legitimate legislative purpose” in obtaining them. US District Judge Tanya Chutkan, the appointed former President Barack Obama, rejected Trump’s request.
