Combating the Empire does not leave a lot of time for small talk. Even so, the women of the “Star Wars” universe manage to pass the Bechdel test, which examines how often female characters talk with each other about anything other than a man. That would be Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones, who leads an effort to steal plans for the Death Star. Though only a few other female characters in her universe are household names, the franchise — in film, animation, novels and comic books — encompasses an array of formidable women to give even the Emperor pause.
