A night after needing stingy defense to beat the New York Knicks, the Lakers played almost no defense until the second half of a 128-113 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. But the Lakers had enough firepower to sweep a New York City back-to-back and improve to 36-9. When the achievement was noted on the video scoreboard at Matthew Knight Arena in the second half, the crowd gave the senior guard a standing ovation. Oregon (16-4, 5-2) led by 11 in the second half but USC rallied with a 17-2 run to take a 62-58 lead, capped by Jonah Mathews’ three-pointer with 1:24 left. Williams was broken in the final game after more than 2 1/2 hours, fittingly ending things with a backhand into the net.
