Despite turning 86 last year Mr Ecclestone is in good heath and still works from 9 till 6 every day as well as many weekends. So it’s no surprise that when Liberty let him loose rumours soon spread that he was working on a rival series to F1. Mr Ecclestone has since confirmed that indeed it isn’t correct though no doubt some conspiracy theorists will fail to believe this. A rival series would face numerous roadblocks though there is no doubt that with his contacts, wealth and experience, Mr Ecclestone would be able to navigate around them if he were to go down this path. F1’s contracts reveal that a new series could put it under pressure in a matter of weeks let alone years.
