So now to their editorials in the wake of Monday’s confidence ballot in the Prime Minister. It’s been clear since its last internal upheaval that the Mail is now campaigning for the Prime Minister, as it has every right to do. They are not sinking their teeth into the Prime Minister and seeking to tear him apart. Perhaps I’m being unfair to the Times, and indeed to the Prime Minister – but isn’t this tantamont to asking him to be other than he is? Maybe the bulk of the non Johnson-hating press has concluded that it isn’t its place to call for a Prime Minister to resign.
