Traditionally the long Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of the big summer vacation travel season. Only Memorial Day weekend in 2005 saw more such travelers than what AAA is forecasting for this upcoming weekend. That would be the most ever road holiday trips on Memorial Day weekend, and it would top last year’s total by 3.5%. The big jump in Memorial Day weekend travel this year clearly is being driven by the nation’s robust economy. That was equal to about 17% of all flights and of all passengers traveling by air over the 2018 Memorial Day weekend.
