The Panthers will become the first New Zealand television series to screen at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. Set to premiere on TVNZ 1 on Sunday night, the drama follows Will ‘Ilolahia and other young Pacific Islanders who formed The Polynesian Panthers in the 1970s. Selection for the Toronto Film Festival is a major accolade in itself. Previous selections for Primetime have included Black Mirror, an Emmy winning anthology series which explored different genres and dystopian scenarios over five series. Only four series have been selected as part of the Toronto Film Festival’s Primetime 2021 line up.
