Away from the 1st tee and 18th green, the most sought-after vantage point was on the hillock that rises above the green on the par-three 6th, one of the finest viewing spots on the Open rota, affording not only an enviable view of that hole, but also a panorama of the whole patchwork quilt of a golf course, and beyond that across Sandwich Bay up the coast to Ramsgate.
