The Number of Ethiopian People Needing Aid Reaches 7.8 MillionMarch 13, 2018 - Aid organizations working inside Ethiopia have disclosed that the number of people needing assistance has reached 7.8 million. This was announced today at the launching of the 2018 Ethiopian Humanitarian and Disaster Resilience Plan (HDRP) by the Ethiopian government and humanitarian partners. The current numbers indicate an increase of 37 percent compared to the same period last year. The HDRP seeks 1.4 billion US dollars to reach these people with emergency food or cash and non-food assistance. According to the Commissioner, the government has committed 138 million US dollars for drought response and rehabilitation of IDPs, he added.
