On Saturday the two Milan teams, Internazionale and AC, played a derby game with both teams under Chinese ownership. Thirty-one years ago when Berlusconi bought Milan for €8M, the team was on its knees. Eight Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, five Champions League titles and five Super Cup titles, two Intercontinental cups, and one FIFA Club World Cup was a phenomenal return. What’s more, the new Milan owners also carry the burden of a prohibitive interest rate on some of their borrowings. Milan supporters may think the club has been thrown a life preserver but the owners are jumping in carrying an anchor.
