In light of this it is surprising that there are still calls for more finite public money to be funnelled into the NHS.91011 But where is all of this money going to come from? And what is the opportunity cost of all this money only going into the NHS in light of the even tougher situation other public services are facing? Clinicians and commissioners need to acknowledge this fact and shift their focus to delivering value-based healthcare that will see NHS services improve patient and population outcomes while optimising resource utilisation.
