In Canada, that figure is even higher; according to Hockey Canada, women make up 45.9 per cent of all adult participants in hockey’s home country. That data doesn’t quite seem to matter to the Montreal Canadiens, though. At least, it certainly doesn’t seem like it — not if the 2021 first-round NHL draft selection of controversial defender Logan Mailloux is any indication. Trying to sort through the number of ways the selection served as a slap in the face to fans would, quite frankly, take up too much time and space. The ask, for many, hadn’t even been for Mailloux to never get to play hockey again.
