This week salary information site PayScale released data on the metro areas with the highest and lowest median pay. It looked at the 100 largest metropolitan statistical areas and ranked them based on annual compensation, which includes salary, bonuses, profit sharing, tips, commissions and other forms of cash earnings. The San Jose, San Francisco and Seattle metro areas took the top three spots, with median income ranging from $73,000 to $103,000. Populated by 5.6 million people, median pay there is $72,000. New York, the largest metro area with 19.6 million people, came in seventh and has median pay of $71,000.
