If parenting is war, the battlefield in our home is the kitchen table, and there’s no surer way to provoke a skirmish than to serve vegetables. When even the white flag of corn niblets is shot down, it’s hard not to feel like you’ve failed. My only consolation is that my family seems to be in good company. Getting kids to eat what they should is one of the biggest fights that modern parents face. The phrase “picky eater” first appears in the lexicon in 1970.
