And the overall belief that advanced statistics are driving away new fans from embracing Major League Baseball is absolutely absurd. Those promos also play online, where so many younger fans dwell. To think that xFIP or OPS+ is keeping young fans from enjoying baseball is just flat-out ridiculous. The enthusiasm is certainly dissolving among younger fans, but it’s not because of PEDs. This thinking – that stats are a significant part of the problem pushing younger fans away from watching MLB – that keeps those would-be fans away, because it blinds everyone to baseballs marketing problem, as if it doesn’t have one.
