In April, Biden sent an unofficial delegation to Taiwan, led by his close friend, former US senator Chris Dodd. At the same time that the Dodd delegation was visiting Taiwan, Washington was engaging with Beijing. The Biden administration seeks to reinforce interactions with democratic nations around the world and has emphasized the importance of mutual alliances, while also trying to maintain a balance. Taiwan’s security interests must not be affected by a US-China conflict.
