Don’t expect to chill with a movie while your car drives you home, even if a self-driving car proposal was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives this week. Right now, only one production car has the technology to do it and that car is Audi’s next A8, due on sale later this year. For starters, every car that proclaims any self-driving status today has up Level 2 autonomy (a status determined by the Society of Automotive Engineers, or SAE). The first SAE Level 3 car (which means the driver will no longer be in charge of monitoring the road and controlling the car) will be Audi’s A8. Slated for launch late this year, the limousine has, by some margin, the most advanced self-driving tech in production, which it calls Traffic Jam Pilot.
