The U.N. envoy for Syria is warning about escalating clashes between regional and international powers over the war-torn country. Staffan de Mistura told the Security Council on Wednesday that recent events trace "a troubling trajectory" of more frequent and intense confrontations over Syria. Last week, Israel attacked dozens of Iranian targets inside Syria. Russia, which leases a naval base in Syria's south, has used submarines and frigates to launch missiles on targets in Syria. State TV quoted Damascus police saying the shell which landed near Victoria bridge in central Damascus on Wednesday also caused damage.
