The Latest: Court battle begins over net neutrality

The Latest on the court battle over net-neutrality (all times local):4:50 p.m.Tech companies and nearly two dozen U.S. states have clashed with the government in federal court over the repeal of net neutrality, a set of rules aimed at preventing big internet providers from discriminating against certain technology and services. Lawyers for the states and the companies, including Mozilla and Vimeo, tried to persuade the three-judge panel to restore the net neutrality regime, set in 2015 during the Obama administration and repealed in December 2017. Attorney Pantelis Michalopoulos said Friday that rolling back the neutrality rules "is a stab in the heart of the Communications Act," referring to the Depression-era law that established the FCC. The faceoff comes in a federal appeals court hearing Friday. The companies, including Mozilla and Vimeo, want the judges to restore the net neutrality regime.
