Cowes Week might have been and gone but there is still good reason to visit the Isle of Wight before the summer draws to a close. Even Queen Victoria used to holiday here – and her old haunt, Osborne House, in East Cowes, is still a big tourist attraction in its own right. There are also kayaks for afternoon paddles and cycles for those who fancy taking the Cowes-Newport track into town. There’s far more animal life beyond any visiting canines, too – and those 24 acres are rich with wildlife, including Canadian geese, woodpeckers, red squirrels, herons and owls. And come winter, it’ll transform perfectly into a cosy den, with a wood burner, home cinema and gorgeous clawfoot baths.
